Free Campsite – Gage, NM

It was our first time camping on BLM land.
We didn’t know what to expect.
Would there be unwelcoming locals? Rowdy partiers? Sketchy neighbors?
We’re happy to report that there were none of these!
It turned out to be one of the best places we have ever camped.
Location
The GPS coordinates for the exact spot that we stayed are 32.188061, -108.086371 . Click here to open in Google Maps.
This free campsite is only 22 miles west of Deming, NM, which is a great place to stop if you need to get any type of supplies.

Since this is BLM land, you are allowed to stay here for up to 14 days, FOR FREE!
Getting There
This free campsite is a breeze to get to. If you’re traveling on I-10, simply take exit number 62, and head South on C020 for 2 miles. After 2 miles, veer right onto the dirt road, and drive down another .6 of a mile.
Here's a short video of what the drive to get there looks like.
From there, the road will split, and you will need to go left at the Y. Go a couple hundred yards further, and the road opens up to a very large open area.
Amenities
There are really no amenities here, other than beautiful views and peace and quiet.

Oh, and the sunsets are amazing!

Our AT&T hotspot had 3 bars of service here.
Our Experience
We camped here for a few nights in December, and then again in February. Both times it was sunny, and near 70 degrees. It does get a little windy here sometimes.
There were only a couple of other campers here each time we stayed, so there was plenty of room to find a nice spot to set up.

As stated before, we were a little apprehensive about staying at a BLM dispersed camping area for the first time. Adding to our uncertainty was the fact that there are no signs indicating that we were even in the right spot.
A few hours after setting up camp, we were greeted by a couple different friendly campers who walked over to say hello. This put our worries at ease, and allowed us to fully enjoy our stay.

The nearby gas station sells fireworks, so we had a little fun with some smoke bombs.

This spot is great for a quick stopover while traveling through New Mexico for 3 reasons. It’s free, it’s peaceful, and it is near the Interstate.

This free campsite is one that we will definitely stay at again!
