FREE CAMPSITE! BLM Land – Lake Havasu, AZ

After our stay at Cattail Cove State Park, we had a one day gap before our reservation at River Island State Park. We didn’t want to drive far or pay much to stay one night in the Lake Havasu area, and the free campsite we found ended up being perfect for what we needed.

The site we found already had a fire ring set up!

The GPS coordinates for the exact spot that we stayed are 34.3978557, -114.1730694 .   Click here to open in Google Maps.

This free campsite is only 12 miles South of Lake Havasu City, AZ. It is right on US-95.

Getting There

It was very easy to get to. You turn East off of US-95 and it is only down the road about 1/4 mile.

There are two options to turn off of US-95 onto. Also, that’s the Colorado River in the background!

We liked this free campsite because it is right off of the road. It was a little bumpy but only took about 2 minutes to get to after leaving the paved road.

We took advantage of the fire ring that was already set up.

An added bonus for this spot is that you have 360 degree mountain views and you can see a little bit of the Colorado River, just like this free campsite in Ehrenberg, AZ. This exact spot had a fire ring and was surprisingly level.

We could even see the hot air balloons from the Lake Havasu Balloon Festival!

Our Experience

We stayed here in January and it was sunny and 70 degrees. We enjoyed cooking dinner on the campfire and making s’mores after dark.

There is the option of driving further down to access more campsites, but as we were only staying one night, we took the first spot available for an easier exit the next day.

As you can see, there are several more spots to camp further down this road.

There were quite a few people parked here during the day to ride around on the off road trails. However, by sunset, they had all cleared out and it was surprisingly private!

All of the other vehicles in this picture left before nightfall, leaving us a private campsite for the night!

The only downside of this free campsite was the road noise, which wasn’t terrible, but definitely noticeable.

We spent almost all day outside!

If you are ever in the Lake Havasu area and looking for a free campsite, we highly recommend this one!
